Freshness from the mountains of northern Lanaudière

Camerise St-Gabriel is in Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon. This is where we grow haskap berries, a small blue fruit well suited to our climate.

Our signature reflects what we want to share: locally grown fruit, a natural setting and an experience connected to the land.

Our story

From research to the land

We are a couple of engineers. After some thirty years devoted to research, we chose to return to the land. Our concern for the environment and our wish to grow food differently led us to haskap berries.

In 2017, we bought our land in Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon and founded the Jardin de Camerise business. That first name expressed our wish to grow a welcoming, natural and vibrant orchard with the spirit of a garden. We planted the first haskap bushes in 2018. Our family project took root with a commitment to growing without pesticides or herbicides.

Learning has been part of this change in our lives. Studies in horticulture, followed by farm management and business, have supported the orchard’s development.

Milestones along the way

2016 — Horticulture studies at the Montréal Botanical Garden.
2017 — Land purchase, creation of Jardin de Camerise and training in horticultural production at the Centre de formation professionnelle des Moissons.
2018 — Planting the haskap bushes and training in agricultural business management.
2020 — Training in e-commerce.
2021 — Training in commercial management.
2026 — Jardin de Camerise becomes Camerise St-Gabriel: a simpler name to remember that clearly identifies what we grow and expresses our connection to Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon and Lanaudière. It also connects the orchard more closely with the local destination and regional food culture.

Today, we hope to share what this journey has brought us: the pleasure of discovering haskap, taking time to pick berries and enjoying nature together. We want every visit to feel personal, genuine and welcoming.

A simple approach

Our growing practices, clearly explained

We prefer to explain exactly what we do at the orchard. We grow our haskap berries without pesticides or herbicides, mainly using drip irrigation and manual or mechanical weed control.

Local farming with a warm welcome

Beyond fruit and products, Camerise St-Gabriel wants to build trust with everyone who visits. We want each guest to feel welcome.

Our growing practices

How do we grow our haskap berries?

Straightforward answers about our actual methods. Camerise St-Gabriel is not certified organic.

Do you use pesticides?

No. We do not use pesticides on our haskap plants.

How do you care for your haskap plants day to day?

We care for our haskap plants as attentively as we would for berries in our own garden. We regularly observe the plants. When we notice harmful insects on a leaf, we remove the affected leaf by hand when that is enough. We also maintain the rows and picking areas to keep the orchard clean, clear and pleasant to explore.

Do you use herbicides?

No. We do not use herbicides in the orchard.

How do you control weeds?

We mainly manage weeds using manual and mechanical methods suited to the orchard.

How are the plants watered?

Mainly with drip irrigation, which delivers water directly to the plants.

Are you certified organic?

No. We do not claim organic certification. We prefer to clearly explain our actual growing practices.
